greenville, sc branding shoot | Hattie odell
Meet Hattie Odell. Hattie is a small business owner in the fashion industry who revamps vintage and thrifted clothing pieces into one-of-a-kind garments. She brings a unique look at sustainability and repurposing second hand goods. When she is not running her business, Hattie manages the staff and operations at ReCraft: Creative Reuse Center, a non-profit dedicated to increasing sustainability in the crafting world by allowing patrons to donate their leftover or forgotten craft supplies to be resold second hand. This model allows for both more sustainable crafting projects as well as making art and crafts more accessible for those on a low budget. Hattie’s passion for fashion and creativity led her to start her own business, where she offers her clients clothing pieces that stand out from the crowd.
Hattie’s love for fashion started when she was a kid, where she would spend hours flipping through fashion magazines and trying out different styles. She always had a fascination for vintage clothing and was drawn to the unique and timeless pieces from the past. This fascination eventually led her to start collecting vintage clothing pieces, which she would then transform into something new and fresh.
Hattie’s creative process starts by spending hours at thrift stores carefully sifting through used items to find the right vintage and second hand pieces that fit her vision to be transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces. Next, Hattie plans out her design for each piece, which often includes embellishing garments with unique embroidery. You can’t find pieces like this just anywhere.
Hattie uses social media and word of mouth to grow her following and has gained loyalty from her clients. They love how unique her pieces are, not to mention how they prevent further waste. Occasionally, Hattie will take a commission from a regular client, helping them create their own vision on a piece of clothing they currently own.
Hattie is a very talented creative business owner bringing a unique new voice to the fashion world. Her dedication to sustainability and creativity will continue to bring good things her way. One of her next projects will include a set of flash designs you can choose for your own unique clothing piece. I’m excited to follow along and see how she continues to grow! You can catch her on Instagram here.
For Hattie’s branding photo shoot, we wanted to focus on her work flow and really allowing the viewer into her creative process. Her branding photos include a look at some of her inspiration, including her vintage lamp passed down from her grandmother and her dog, Butter. I loved getting to hang out with both of them in her studio while we created her editorial style branding photos.
