Autumn Maternity Session Cherokee Park Louisville KY
I got to meet and photograph Abby and Karim in late autumn 2023. We met up at Cherokee Park in Louisville, KY to take their maternity photos. The leaves were mostly on the ground, with just a few hanging on to the trees. The Christmas season was just beginning, and it was chilly out. The cold, overcast winter season was just beginning in Louisville, and we were still excited to get to wear sweaters again. Abby and Karim were looking forward to meeting baby T in just a couple short months and wanted some photos taken to document Abby’s baby bump and their love pre-baby.
I love using natural light to capture your moments. One thing I love about it is that it adds an extra element of your life together. Was it cold that day? Was it wintertime? This day the light was so soft and muted, and it was so beautiful.
Getting to take maternity photos and celebrate tiny families that are just beginning is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer. Cherokee Park is one of my favorite places in Louisville, and it was the perfect spot to take these family photos, since they love to come here together and look forward to bringing their baby when he arrives.
I try to incorporate as many candid moments as I can and use prompts to guide you into interacting with each other in a natural way, rather than you forcing yourselves into a certain pose. Maternity photos are no exception. I want to document the exact way you look right now while you are growing this tiny baby and the exact way you and your partner love each other in this season right now. I do my best to bring a relaxed presence and energy to our photo session so that you can just hang out and interact with each other as you usually do. I want to give you space to be yourself while I act as an observer and capture it.
My biggest goal with any session is for the photos you receive to always serve as a tangible reminder of who you were in this precious season. You’ll never again be exactly who you are today, and I want you to always be able to look back on these photos and remember. My hope is that you will not just let these photos collect dust in an online gallery or old harddrive, but that you will put prints on your wall, order an album for your coffee table, and daily look back at these images of a crucial part of your life.
Abby and Karim, thank you for allowing me the honor of capturing your pregnancy and love together as you welcome a new love into your family.
