Falls of the ohio intimate proposal

partner proposes to his love at falls of the ohio state park

One of my favorite parks in the Louisville, KY area is The Falls of the Ohio State Park (and connecting parks). The Falls of the Ohio State Park is in Clarksville, IN right across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. I love that you can see the Louisville skyline reflecting in the water of the Ohio River. It’s such a beautiful spot. (I love going there with a good book on a nice night!)

So I was very excited when Jay reached out to me about proposing to Caitlin during their photo session at the park. Pro tip when proposing: schedule a photo shoot or do it during your already scheduled photo session. That way your photographer won’t have to hide and can get better photos of the proposal as it’s happening. That is what Jay did, and the proposal went so smoothly.

partners are getting engaged. he is showing her the ring.

I love photographing proposals and engagement sessions, because the couple is so clearly over-the-top in love with each other, and it is so evident in their photos. The excitement and newly engaged feels make for some beautiful photos of you and your love.

She said yes! It’s always a relief when the question has been posed, your partner says yes, and you can celebrate! I brought champagne and glasses to our session, because I loovveee a champagne spray photo. I think it’s such a fun way to celebrate and get excited, and it makes for some really fun photos. I approach photo sessions with a relaxed, fun vibe and try to make your photos as easy and enjoyable and as much like you as I can. If you enjoy champagne, a champagne spray moment and celebratory toast are such a great thing to incorporate into your photo session.

Caitlin and Jay’s engagement photos just happened to fall during Blue Hour which made for some magical colors. If you’re not familiar with Blue Hour, it is the second magic hour photographers love. You have probably heard of Golden Hour which is the hour right before and during the sunset. (Or the sunrise, but most of us miss that one!) The sun is low in the sky and it makes for beautiful glowy, sunny photos. Blue Hour is the counterpart to Golden Hour and occurs right before the sunrise or after the sunset. The sun is no longer visible, but is still providing some beautiful light. The light is soft and even and makes for some deep, cool-toned colors and nice even skin tones. Blue Hour is one of my favorite times to take photos (I might even like it better than Golden Hour!), and I was so excited to get to photograph Caitlin and Jay’s proposal during it.

We also caught some of the last colors in the sky. I love how you can see the colors of the sunset behind Caitlin and Jay as they show off Caitlin’s ring. The Ohio River looks so beautiful at sunset.

I try to approach every photo session as hands-off as I can, offering direction when needed, but allowing you to be yourself. 20 years from now, I want you to have photos to look back on that are an accurate representation of who you were in this time of your life. I do my best to take a documentary approach to your photos and give you space to show up as you are. I think we accomplished that with Caitlin and Jay’s engagement photos, and I’m excited for the next lives I get to document!
