Relaxed Summer Wedding at Talon Winery in Lexington, KY

Towards the end of August, I had the honor of photographing Priyank and Anel’s intimate and relaxed wedding day. Priyank has lots of family in India who couldn’t make it all the way to the states, so they had already had a wedding in India earlier in the year. They did a second wedding here in Kentucky so that all of their friends and family who lived here could celebrate with them. Anel is Catholic, so their day started with a beautiful ceremony at St Paul’s in downtown Lexington, Kentucky.

Anel and Priyank get double good luck because not only did it rain on their wedding day in India, it also rained on their American wedding day. And not only did it rain, but there was also a hail and wind storm. This was my first time experiencing hail during a wedding day, and I think if rain means good luck, hail must mean blessings for life.

Thankfully, they had chosen Talon Winery for their wedding venue which has a great indoor space, so everyone was able to wait out the storm inside. After the rain cleared up, it was a beautiful, sunny evening. Anel and Priyank enjoyed hanging out on the patio with all of their friends and family, talking, dancing, and taking photos.

Priyank’s mom had passed away, and so for the first dances, after dancing with her father, Anel invited in her mother, and then they invited Priyank, and the four of them danced together. It was such a sweet moment.

I also got to experience my first Vibora De La Mar or snake dance. It is a Mexican wedding tradition where all the women try to pull the bride from the groom and all the men try to pull the groom. Then they “make the groom fly” by hoisting him in the air. I loved getting to experience such a fun cultural tradition!

My favorite part of the wedding was dessert. Instead of doing a traditional cake cutting, Priyank and Anel had a popsicle truck come with popsicles for all. I tried the Horchata flavor, and it was sooo good. I love when couples choose non-traditional options for their weddings!

It was such a good day, rain and all. Talon Winery was a beautiful venue to photograph a wedding at. I loved all of the open space and the combination of indoor and outdoor spaces. You can check out another of my favorite Kentucky wedding venues here.
