4 reasons to Consider Sunset Photos with Your Wedding Photographer

Sunset photos are one of my favorite parts of any wedding day. I like to encourage my couples to take a short break during their reception to sneak away for a few photos outside at sunset—and trust me, there’s more to it than just capturing the pretty light! If you’re wondering whether it’s worth it, here are four reasons why you should make time for sunset photos.

1. You can enjoy your reception more!

Weddings can be a bit of a balancing act, especially when it comes to the timeline. After the ceremony, there’s often a rush to take photos before the reception kicks off. By scheduling in a few minutes for sunset photos later in the day, we can spend less time right after the ceremony doing couple portraits, giving you more time to be with your guests.

If you’re not planning a first look, this is an especially great option. It allows you to relax and enjoy your cocktail hour or mingle with your loved ones while still ensuring we capture some beautiful, intimate photos of the two of you later in the day.

2. You can relax

Often you and your love are more relaxed and have more fun taking photos after you’ve eaten a good meal, gotten off your feet for a bit, and had a drink or two. It will be easier for you to just relax and enjoy the moment (and that will show in the pictures!)

When you’re less focused on timelines and more present in the moment, it really shows. And the result is more photos that capture your genuine emotions.

3. You get an excuse to take a break

Your wedding day is filled with excitement, energy, and a lot of people, which can sometimes feel a little overwhelming. Getting photos during sunset is also a good excuse to sneak away during the reception with your love. You’ll get to have a few minutes to enjoy being together, sneak in some kisses, and just savor the day.

And the best part? You’ll have these photos to look back on as a reminder of those quiet, intimate moments amidst the craziness of your wedding day.

4. The liggghhtttt

Okay this one is maybe the most obvious, but the light at sunset is beautiful. I love all the warm golden light, and it gives such a soft, romantic vibe to your photos.

That golden hour light can elevate even the simplest moments, adding a dreamy, timeless quality to your photos. Whether you’re standing in an open field or by a city skyline, sunset light makes everything look extra beautiful and romantic.

If you’re on the fence about whether to make time for sunset photos, I wholeheartedly recommend it. Not only will you get some of the most beautiful images from your day, but you’ll also have a chance to pause and enjoy the moment. Sunset photos aren’t just about pretty pictures—they’re about creating space to connect with your partner and truly experience the magic of your wedding day.
